2.2. If you have been in Singapore for more than a year

1. The Belgian driving licence

The Embassy does not issue Belgian driving licences, international driving licences or duplicates.

To obtain a Belgian driving licence, international driving licence, temporary driving licence or duplicate of one of these documents, you must imperatively be registered in the consular registers of a Belgian embassy, outside the European Economic Area. You can apply in Belgium with the municipality of your last domicile in Belgium. To do this, simply submit an application form and a copy of your Belgian eID (additional documents may be requested for a duplicate)

For more information, please check the website of SPF Mobility and Transport in French or Dutch.

2. Driving in Singapore

2.1. If you have been in Singapore for less than a year

In accordance with the bilateral licensing agreement between Belgium and Singapore, you can drive a car in Singapore with a valid Belgian driving licence and an International Driving licence or an official translation of your Belgian licence in English. The Embassy can issue this translation on simple request ( please refer to our consular fees).

2.2. If you have been in Singapore for more than a year

To continue driving in Singapore after 12 months of residence here (from the date of your last entry into Singapore), you must obtain a valid Singapore driving licence.

You will find all the information relating to the conversion of your Belgian driving licence into a Singaporean driving licence here.

3. Driving in countries where English is not commonly spoken

If you're going overseas and plan to drive a car, having an International Driving Permit (IDP) can minimize inconvenience for drivers in countries where English is not commonly spoken.

IDP « International Driving Permit »  is the only official legal document sanctioned by the UN Convention on Road Traffic. For more information please click here.
